Hey what’s up? As you can see, my name’s John and I’m on the spirituality committee this year. I’m a sophomore bio major in CALS thinking about minoring in Communications. I’m also a TA for both the supplement classes of CHEM 2070 and CHEM 2080, so be sure to reach out if you ever have any chem questions, or of course if you just want to chat. This is my first semester on the Cornell Catholic student leadership team, and I’m thrilled about it. After growing up as a not-too-devout Catholic, I came to Cornell considering checking out churches of different denominations, just to see where I felt God was calling me to worship Him. I soon realized though that this was nowhere near what God’s plan was for me. The first Sunday I was on campus I decided to try out our Catholic Church, just to go somewhere I knew I’d be comfortable. I’ve never considered switching churches since. The atmosphere of our caring, truly loving community had inspired me to explore the depths and the roots of our faith, something I had never genuinely done before. I learned such fulfilling truths, and everybody here is so intelligent, I felt they knew so much more than I did. Thus, with that newfound desire in my heart, and growing in it throughout my freshman year, when quarantine sent us home, I was ready to do some exploration myself. I’m a big YouTube fan (I highly recommend YouTubers like Brian Holdsworth and Matt Fradd) and learned a lot from there and reading metaphysical philosophical sorta stuff on the internet. I realized that so many people, myself included, in and out of the Church don’t know about these faith basics and that leads to a lot of confusion at times. So, though I’m very much a novice, I figured I’d join the spirituality committee and help share some of the metaphysical truth that I’ve learned, truths that have greatly helped me center myself during this crazy year. I’ve grown so much in my faith through being a part of this community and even though we don’t get to gather too much in person, I hope to create a similar environment to the one I fell so in love with: a community in righteousness through God. God bless! Be sure to reach out to me with any questions, any time.
